Tonight’s Dr. Dog show was at the Chameleon Club in Lancaster, PA.  Even though Dr. Dog has been around for 5+ years, they have more buzz right now than Homer Simpson’s beer.

Dr. Dog was on the cover of Relix magazine last month named “America’s Next Great Band” pushing this band right out into the the public eye after cutting their teeth during years of hard touring in the Philadelphia, PA area.  These guys were originally exposed by My Morning Jacket’s musical genious Jim James (by the way you might be seeing some of them on here later this year. Wink, wink, nudge, nudge.) by taking them out on the road with them on a tour, the rest they say is history.  The Chameleon Club was pretty full, they drew a big crowd which is nice to see.

Dr. Dog is a 5-piece band that draws heavy influences from the Beatles and Beach Boys.  They have many vocal harmonies that have 3 to 4 parts simultaneously adding a thick texture to their sound.  They rock hard telling stories of hope, fate, and hopping trains.  While their newest CD is one of the better cds released this year, the proof is in the pudding and in this case the pudding is their live shows.

Their live shows are very energetic and rocking Scott McMicken and Toby Leaman are constantly moving all over the stage, stomping their feet, and sweeping…..  Yep, they have a broom the bring on stage. :)   These guys play a very 60’s influenced original set of music that is played with 110%.  Go see them live!

This show also had a rare moment.  That evening was the bass player’s second anniversary with his wife.  So he took the opportunity to tell everyone that he wrote a song for his bride, “Keep A Friend”, and sung it on his wedding night to her and since his family was there that night as a special gesture, he had his father (whom had a lot to do with Dr. Dog’s very beginnings) come on stage and sing it to her.
