The Drive-By Truckers played the SOLD OUT Dragonfly Club in Harrisburg, PA on 05/08/2008.  I now understand why they are named Drive-By Truckers, they took the stage, pummeled Harrisburg in the gut like a runaway truck, and then took off onto the dirty road.  

Drive-By Truckers shows are just good dirty rock n roll shows.  No frills, just a boot in the butt to get you moving and if you can’t keep up you get run over.  Drive-By Truckers are from Athens, GA and play a gritty southern rock’n roll…. Not like Skynard or Allmans, more like the Black Crowes on high octane fuel.  They also do less jamming and noodling than the Black Crowes.  

I am not sure if this was their first small club show in a while but it seemed like the whole band had a blast playing for this packed house.  They also noted this was their first time playing Harrisburg and they don’t know why because the city is so nice. 

The Drive-By Truckers have had a lot of turmoil along their way since they started some 10 years ago, most recently having Jason Isbell leaving the band but the band, but has never looked back.  It only makes them rock harder and more honestly.

This was an awesome night and glad the DBT truckers made a stop in Harrisburg!

Unfortunately since the club was so packed it did not allow me to move around at all.  In addition the stage was so small (maybe 15′x15′ i am guessing)  the drummer and keyboard player were hidden in the back corner and was never able to get any shots of them.  My apologies.

The fans were extremely welcoming to opening band, the Dexateens, giving them huge applauses.  The Dexateens music was very similarly styled to that of the Drive-By Truckers.  All in all a great fitting opening band.  To see their set of photos, click here.
