07/03/2007 Built To Spill
Built To Spill have always been one of those bands that spew creativity with a DIY mentality. Doug Martsch, the bands front-man will never own up to his guitar skills or rise to rock stardom like their long-time and now tabloid popular friends in Modest Mouse.
On this sold out night in Lancaster, Built to Spill threw out dense, spiraling and echoing distorted guitars (If you need an example of this, take a listen to “Carry The Zero”.) just like the records as they pounded out their 90 minute set. The crowd was full of old-school Built To Spill material but the new and old were all well recieved.
I have been listening to Built To Spill and Modest Mouse since about 1999 or so and had never had the oportunity to see them live until this night. The closest i had come was listing to their live CD which has the most impressive version of Neil Young’s “Cortez Killer”.
I am glad i got the opportunity to finally see Built To Spill and i can’t wait until i can see them again.
